About JED Signs
JED Signs is a sign company in Greensboro, North Carolina. We design, build, install and repair monument signs: the ground-level signs in front of businesses, churches, schools, medical offices and subdivision entrances. That is most of what we do, and it is the work we want to be known for.
Doing the job start to finish matters on a monument sign. The first site visit is already about the footing and the power run, not just the face, because a sign that looks right on paper and leans three years later is not a good sign. Keeping design, fabrication and install together means there is one place to call when something needs to change.
How we work
A job starts with a site visit. We look at where the sign will stand, how it reads from the road, where the property line and utilities are, and whether power is close enough for lighting. From there you get a drawing with the size, materials and wording laid out, along with the price in writing.
Once you sign off on the drawing, we handle the permit paperwork. Inside Greensboro, freestanding signs go through the city's Land Development Ordinance review and a sign permit from the inspections office; outside city limits it runs through the county or the town. Utility lines get marked before anyone digs. Then the footing goes in, sized for the sign and dug deep enough for Piedmont red clay, which holds water, heaves, and cracks a shallow base. The base and face go up after the concrete sets, and any lighting is wired and tested before we leave.
What we will not do
We will not price a sign without seeing a photo of the spot or the spot itself. We will not skip the permit on a freestanding sign to save a week. We will not pour a shallow footing because the ground looks firm in August. And we will not tell you an old sign needs replacing when a repair will carry it for years.
