Stokesdale Subdivision and Church Signs

Not long ago much of the land around Stokesdale was farmland and woods. Today the crossroads where NC 68 meets US 158 sits in one of the fastest-growing corners of Guilford County, with new subdivisions going in on former farmland and the rest of the northwest county, Summerfield and Oak Ridge, growing right alongside it. Belews Lake lies just to the northwest, and the town still keeps its small-town feel, with churches, a few local businesses and a lot of new rooftops.

All that growth means new entrances. Every subdivision needs a permanent sign at its front door, and older neighborhoods and churches start to look worn next to the new ones. That is most of what JED Signs builds in Stokesdale: brick and stone entrance walls, church monuments with message boards, and simple, sturdy signs for the businesses that serve all those new households.

Who reviews a Stokesdale sign

Stokesdale is an incorporated town, and depending on the parcel a freestanding sign may go through the town's review, Guilford County's planning and development office, or both, with an electrical inspection added for lit signs. Subdivision signs often sit inside a recorded easement or on common area owned by the HOA, so we also confirm who owns the ground before we design anything.

We handle the permit paperwork and draw the sign to the rules that apply to your lot. We do not guess at setbacks or height limits; we look them up for the address and put them on the drawing you approve.

Entrance walls, church boards and storefront signs

Developers and HOA boards here usually want a wall that matches the houses: brick with a cast stone cap, or stacked stone with a cut aluminum or cast letter set. Some want a pair of walls, one on each side of the entrance road, with low lighting washing the letters at night. Our walls built for subdivision front doors page lays out the common layouts and what each one takes to build.

Churches along the main roads often want a monument with the church name up top and a message board below. Small businesses tend to want one double-sided sign at the drive, readable to traffic moving in both directions on a two-lane road. In every case the goal is the same: the sign should look like it was planned with the property, not added later.

What clay and storms do to a sign

Stokesdale sits on the same red clay as the rest of the Piedmont. It soaks up water, swells, then dries and shrinks, and a sign base that is not set deep enough will slowly tip toward the road. On new subdivision lots the problem is worse, because grading leaves loose fill near the entrance. We dig past the fill to firm ground, add gravel for drainage, and pour footings sized for the wall.

Weather finishes the job the soil starts. Summer thunderstorms bring wind and heavy rain, and the occasional winter ice storm loads the face and the lights. We seal joints, cap walls so water runs off instead of soaking in, and use outdoor-rated LED lighting that can be serviced without tearing into the masonry.

Nearby towns we also cover

Most of our northwest county work runs between Stokesdale, Summerfield and Kernersville, and we often have a crew out on the Oak Ridge side of NC 68 during the same week. JED Signs is based in Greensboro and builds signs across Guilford County and the nearby Triad towns, so Stokesdale is well inside our normal range.

Get a price

For a quote, send a photo of the entrance or the spot at the road, the wording you want, and whether you want lights. For a subdivision, a copy of the plat or a marked-up aerial helps us see the easement. Every sign is quoted by size, materials and lighting, with a drawing and the price in writing before any digging starts. HOA boards often need a drawing to vote on, and we are glad to make one for the next meeting. Fill in the form, then text the photo (and the plat, if you have it) to 336-579-0766, and we will follow up with questions or a first sketch.
